At first it was hard.
I kept ending up with more stitches then I started with...how, I'm not sure, but I did.
It may not look like much now but I bet any day now it will become something amazing
like a jumper.

but some how dues to time, circumstance, finance
or perhaps pure laziness I did not)

1. Write a post about 10 things you will do in 2011 -
...
well better late than never.

2. Which brings me nicely to my next point, STOP BEING LATE!

Seriously. It's like an addiction.

Learn to leave the house on time, stop flapping about and not being able to decide what to do with your hair, or getting changed entirely because you your current outfit does'nt go with the shoes you have to wear because it is raining.

It's unprofessional and damn annoying for you and everyone else so just stop it, ok?

And be more tidy. You only annoy yourself missy!

3. Learn a whole boat load of new things. For real this time. A third language is a good place to start. Or an instrument of some sort. You know you can, you have done it before!
Just dont put too much pressure on yourself and you will do it and then, voila!
(see, you have started already.)

4. Get a job. A really really lovely amazing job that you are good at and get to dress nicely for every day. Like a magicians assistant. Or become a magician! Add that to the list of things to learn - magic. Get really good and preform for people in vintage sequined dresses.

5. Fall in love. With a city. Not a person, because people come and go and change but places stay the same quite a lot and now is the perfect time to move on and get a new place which makes you happy.

6. Don't get stuck in rut. Don't allow yourself to be petty and lazy and self defeatist and unwilling to make allowances to people. Don't be too stubborn or narrow minded because you know those are things you hate in other because that's what you find totally unbearable about yourself. Be less careful. Or more careful. Be more impulsive and don't let the things that came before to stop you from pursuing things which could lie ahead.

Also maybe be less judgmental.

Well you could always be as judgmental but not so open about it.

7. Blog more. Try and maintain all three of them. Keep taking a photo a day, keep sharing you make up looks, keep writing your thoughts here. In fact keep doing them but do them more, and more frequently! And share MORE! Tell all those stories you bore your friends with here and maybe people will read that and surprise you, or maybe they wont, but at least you would have done it.

Relationships aye? Bit of a tricky thing those ones. So we all go through phases of being in them and not being in them and being in them but not wanting to be in them or being not in them and wanting to be in one. Ah love, you are a many splendored thing.

For example when you are in a relationship you get to do all sorts of great things, like going out to eat together or taking photos of yourselves looking in love (and uploading them onto social networking sites so others can be jealous) or watching films about love and thinking how lucky you are not to be alone or spending hours just staring into each others eyes or taking lovely sunset walks and throwing stones at the single people.

However for those of us who are currently not enjoying the many splendors love has to offer (but are instead feasting from the cornucopia of single person living) get to spend our time eating (alone), drinking (alone), feeding stray animals in attempts to not be alone and hiding below ground during day light hours so as to avoid the stones thrown by couples.

There are, of course, innumerous wonderful things about being "single". However I like a challenge so I went ahead and attempted to make a top 10....

1. Bed Clothes....I'm a hogger. Fact. And an unapologetic one at that. I'm half your weight, just pull the duvet back or man up.

2. No one to disprove it when I lie about why I am late for something.
Yes I am always late.
Yes I always have a excuse.
No there is no one to witness the freak hurricane which ripped through my flat and made me lose 40 minutes.

3: Watching really terrible shows: Yes ANTM, yes Glee, yes Jersey Shore, yes yes, yes.

4: High heels, as high as I like and no Napoleon complex to deal with.

5: Man flu. Nuff said.

6: Talking to myself is now truly to myself and no one can complain that I have been singing an off key version of "Total eclipse of the heart" for the past 4 days.

7: Wearing layers of the brightest lipstick known to mankind.

8: White girl dancing. Ok I did this when I wasn't single also but I find it more rewarding now.

9: Wandering around my house dressed like a "Grey Gardens" refugee.

10:The less people around you have around you, the less chance there is of one of them being a CIA planted killer robot.
That's just sound logic.

An open letter to my dearest Barcelona,

Once upon a time there was a girl. A girl who swore the day her exams ended she would be on the first plane out of Ireland and never look back. And so it was, with her best friend by her side and a partially formed plan in mind she arrived in Barcelona for what was supposed to be "a ten day holiday". Ten days some how became 3 years and suddenly the day arrived that the girl decided to leave.

In case you didn't get it, I am that girl. But you got that right? Right. Lets continue.

So, Barcelona, here we are. I hate to say it but its not you, its me. It's your fault it's me, but it's me. We had some good times though. Lets be honest, when we were on we were ON. I think you are really beautiful. Honestly, I love all of you, even the bad parts. I will never forget the magic of waking up to you every day.

But you could be a little abusive. Im not going to lie, a couple of times you almost broke me down. I know you are bad for me, I know you never gave me a real job and sometimes you tried to mug me and there was that one time a prostitute punched me which frankly was a little uncalled for. You also have a seedy side. With the sex trade and the muggings and the general feeling of threat which occurs on small dark streets at night. But the thing about night is that eventually the sun goes up, then there is morning.

But lets talk about the good times shall we? Lets talk about the lovely sunny afternoon all year round and of sitting outside cafes watching the world go by. Lets talk about all the amazing people you bought into my life and all the fun I had living in this huge mixing pot of the world. Lets talk about the feeling of joy I still get from running up the metro stairs and stepping out into the city.

I'll so miss street parties and 24hr bars, the parks, the music, the hidden corners in the Gotico, the Rambla Catalunya, sitting on benches in Psg de Gracia, the flower market, the cathedral on psg San Juan that I would walk to when I couldn't sleep, street beers, monsoons in the autumn, heat stoke in the summer, Casa Bon Success, Casa Trippy, The Quiet Man, moments on my roof, breakfast in bed, Lola Kitten, the sound of skateboard of tiled streets, the funicular, jumping into the sea on a boiling hot day (or an ice cold night as the case may be), parties that lasted all night and into the day, afternoons wasted lying on the grass and 100 more moments that hit me whenever I think about leaving.

And the men. Wow, I never knew there were so many wonderful guys out there for me to make an ass of myself in front of. I grew up in a small town Barcelona, I was not prepared for the smorgasbord that you had to offer. It was like an all you could eat buffet and I attempted to fill my plate with a little of everything. Greedy greedy me. But I got some great stories out of it didnt I? That's the thing about you BCN, you always made for great stories.

There was love too wasn't there? Let us not forget the love. One big one. Love that is. Didn't really end so great but that's the way these things go isn't it? It's all part of the process. I will remember the good parts and learn from the bad parts and take it all a lesson. Just like I did with you Barcy. It's all just been a series of lessons wrapped up in one big lesson.

Friends. Friends I will have forever and some I may never see again but still
all of them giving me something, helping me along my way. Take care of them wont you?

There's a funny feeling in the air here. A nature of moving on, everyone on there way somewhere else, everyone working to fund their real jobs. We all leave you eventually don't we? Do you ever get tired of it? Or do you enjoy the high turn over? Always new faces and new stories. It must get tiring. I know that's why I am leaving. I got tired of doing it all over again. New job, new house, new people. I guess I have started to crave what it was I always hated, what I was trying to get away from. Tedium, routine, stability. I wonder how long before I get sick of it again.

I don't know if I will always feel so deeply for cities I live in. You were my first, that means something right? I always was just looking for a place to feel like home, a place to feel like I belonged.

And sometimes I found that in you.

I'll be back soon, you know that. I have left way too many shoes not to come back.

I have a strange memory. I seem to accumulate an infinite number of useless facts, song lyrics, stories, names, faces, I can recall with precision important moments, unimportant moments, chance meetings, first meetings, uneventful afternoons, mixed tapes, quotes, conversations....and yet...I cant remember to pick up my house keys, to buy cat food, to call someone back, math formulas, language rules, which apartment my best friend lives in, to put my watch on after a shower. It's like the useless memory information pushes out the important here and now information.

.

The biggest memory trigger for me is clothes. I can recall any event by remembering what I was wearing. It sound silly and people never believe me when I tell them but its true. I remember what I wore, I can remember everything. I can usually tell other people what they wore too...its like my brain takes a photo of the event and by bringing it up, everything else comes wooshing back.

.

I have a habit of loving items of clothing to death, till I am sick of them or they fall apart. I refer to times in life as when I always wore a black v-neck or only road jeans. There was a summer that I always had a Korn hoody round my waist and one that I truly believed my skin tight flares were the height of coolness.

The green top I wore when I kissed my first boyfriend for the first time by the bus station that was under construction. My brothers shirt I borrowed and wore the first time I threw up from drinking too much, in a field with Eoin holding my hair back. The green dressing gown I was wearing when I found out my friend had died, the one I didn't take off for 3 day. The jeans I was wearing the first time my heart broke while I sat on a bus. The coat I was wearing when I looked in the mirror and realised for the first time I was happy with myself. The hat I wore when I dropped my ex at the bus stop and realised I would never see him again. The dress I was wearing when I told someone special how I felt about them on my sofa.

But with this comes a different problem. If something bad happens to me while I am wearing something in particular then, well, that poor item will get resigned to the back of the wardrobe till a time comes around when I can look it in the eye. It's almost as if I blame that item in a way. A dress I couldnt ware for a week because it arrived the same day someone left, an outfit I thought was so cute until I found out "he" was seeing someone else, the skirt my mom brought me as a present but 2 days later I wore it to my grandmothers funeral, and a hundred more things I would love to sit here and list but know no one will ever get through them all.

I wonder if anyone else does this? Do other people find themselves unable to look at certain items of clothing after something bad happens in them?! Maybe I am just strange....

If my life was a pie chart and that pie chart was divided into sections of "things I have under control in my life" and "things I do not have under control in my life" then the section of pie that represents the latter category would be very slim indeed.

This graph may actually over estimate quite how much I do have in control.

Being, as I am, a person who likes to be in control I have taken the path of "pretending nothing is wrong" as a way to combat this issue. Instead of focusing on the 10 thousand things which are wrong, which range from small and insignificant to huge and life altering, I keep myself happy by listing things which keep me from being crushed under the immense weight of wrongitude.

Here's a few:

- Emails. I love a good email. One with lots of information and nice sentiments. Love it.

- My hair. Its just really very nice right now.

- Boys. Instead of worrying about just one, I'm just going to like them all.

- Katie C Turner. She likes cute boys too and draws lovely pictures about them.

She rules.

- Mark Ruffalo. Because he is Mark Ruffalo and that is all any man could want to be.

- Fur and socks. Hello autumn.

- All my friends helping out with guests post over at Letters to a Stranger
while I got my teeth out. You guys rule.

I am currently very unemployed. The type of unemployed which is actually embarrassing, and a little scary. So unemployed in fact, that I have gone beyond bored and entered a whole new state of being which is involves me being half scared of getting a job ("what if I cant remember how to work?!") and half having mini panic attacks about having no money ("this watermelon in only 79c, I can live on watermelon for a week right?!").

This does however leave me with the opportunity to wear whatever the hell I want everyday. Today I was went for fake hair and high heels. You know, just a regular Monday afternoon...

I have been away for awhile. Life sort of did a 360 on me, and now I find myself at a cross roads of sorts. Trying desperately to have any idea which way to turn.

But I don't have any idea. Instead what I do is sit around thinking about stuff a lot and justify wasting my time. And I am really good at justifying my inactivity. I start to get really proud of myself for doing the most mundane tasks. "Well done!" I tell myself, "you actually went to the super market and brought food for the week!" then I treat myself with another day of sloth like behavior.

I went to Ireland and visited the vast and scenic countryside I grew up in. It felt good to be in the open air.

I know I did.
And then I realised after he said it, I didnt need to hear it anymore.

The bitter-sweet victory in fact became more of the former then the latter and the day I always thought I would handle with good grace, slipped by in fumbled words and misunderstandings.

Given the choice, I would rather forget then forgive.

Apoligise lose meening when attached to events long since past. The wounds have healed over, badly and painfuly.

- To like 500 days of summer, I dont care if its painfuly "realistic", its annoyed me. Zooey Deschannel annoyed me. The end annoyed me. People who relate to the film annoy me. When I was 8 my family and I moved from London to the Irish countryside. I attended a tiny school with only 5 pupils thats was close to my house. After the initial culture shock I adapted and began to enjoy the novelty of going to a school where 4 diffrent age groups where taught 4 diffrent lessons in one room by 1 teacher. Every morning a fire was lit in the open fire place so as to keep us warm. It was one persons job to go and collect the coal and other fule from a tiny building outside.

Iv been feeling rather nostalgic recently for my country days. I remember very clearly when my Mom allowed me to start cycling to school and back. She baught me one of those parcel carriers for the back to strap my school bag too. I felt so grown up and like a carchter from a book, cycling through the countryside stopping along the way to pick blackberries.

.

These days I long for a bicycle to scoot around the city. Ill make sure it has a parcel carrier too. And a basket.

Last year me and my then boyfriend where sitting on a bus going somwhere (the details escape me as to where and why). I was dressed appropriatly for white girl in the summer, my general uniform of short shorts and watever else I feel like. It was around 35 degrees outside. Now I am have never really been able to pin myslef down to one style. I would never know how to describe my style, other have applied the words gangster, eccentric, bag lady, lady like,pure genius...Ok maybe not but you catch my drift.

Any road up, on the fateful day I was dressed fairly tamely.

.

Back to the story. So we were sitting on the bus and I was on some rant about my personal style while boyfrend stared into space (luckily this was early on in our reletionship while he still liked me enough to pretend he was listening). He turned to me and said " I really like the way you dress, like your whole Rosa style". I was flattered of course, and wanted to hear more nice things so I said "Oh yes what do you like about ?"

"I always wanted to go out with a girl who dresses like you" he said "Like...Kinda Slutty!"

So there you go. The day I saw my personal style through someone elses eyes.

That being said...I am saving for thigh high boots (a life long want of mine) I do love short stuff, tight stuff, sheers stuff, platform stuff, and I would gladly dress like Alison Goldfrapp or any of these slutty bitches for the rest of my days.

I had a very deprived childhood...

Ok thats not entirely (or at all) true but I did never enough room to have a wardrobe and had to fold all my clothes into drawers or hang them from over stuffed hooks on my walls that would sporadicaly collapse under their own weight.

In my current house we have an enormus built in wardrobe.

(the only refernce picture I could find...ignore the cat and semi nakedness)

And fill it I have with all my clothes and shoes. I was still a little short of space and I had a high shoes rack that interupted my hanging clothes and perhaps too much space to fold clothes away.

Anway, the boyfreind was emotionaly blackmailed into watching The SATC movie with me where in lusted over both of SJP's wardrobes (Im not evern particullarly fond of the show or the film but it keeps popping up recently...)

And lo and behold not 24 hours later boyfriend had cleared out his 1 shelf of clothes and stored them somewhere invisible rearranged the whole thing so I have been granted the ENTIRE space to myself...oh yes...(I sinceraly hope it isnt instead of a Valentines Day gift)

I want to repaint it, style it up somehow but have no idea what colour to choose (Im planing to repaint that part of the room a sort of magnolia colour) and want to paint the closet inside and out...perhaps blue? or red? pink?

To celebrate my decision to not dress down for the next month, I went out with my friend for drinks in a bar with beautiful wall...It was like being in an enchanted forest! We had a few drinks and decided then was deffiatly the right time to begin an editiorial photo shoot:

Yes I wear this cardigan alot. I found it in a second hand shop and it took me like a year to figure out how to wear it.

Day 1

Ok so today is day 1 of my month in high heels. Those of you that remember the rules of the game will know that I have to wear heels atleast 5 days a week but that I had granted myself heel free journeys in case of rain and or icredible lateness.

Well today I was late and it rained.

However in spirit of starting the month the way I intende to continue it I wore my heels and hailed a taxi to get me to work slightly on time and reletively dry.

Please forgive the strange pose, I was in the process of closing the door then got distracted and forgot to take more photos and now im in my pyjamas so this will have to do!

wow for some reason it super ad resolution, I promise Ill try harder next time!

I wore these pretty comfortale black oxfords style heels that I love as they are cute and trendy but only cost me e16 in Pennys (primark as some of you know it).

People always ask me where they are from and sometimes I lie and pretend they are from somewhere else as (god forbid) they might buy the same pair and take away some of the charm for me.

p.s thats my pink hair :-)

What I notice on my way home is that heels confuse me. Especialy with this tight skirt as I somehow become really unsure as to weather Im walking properly or not and what to do with my arms (lack of pockets didnt help). Anyone got any tips how to make my upper body look posied and elegant) Short of carrying a 30cm cigarette holder and pretending to be Audrey Hepburn, I have no idea how to!

On a slightly ureleted not do you belive style is a natural thing or that it is learnt? Sometimes I will comment a girls sense of style in perhaps an unkind way ad my boyfried always tells me I should be nicer to her as it is not her fault she isnt born stylish (sub text isnt as stylish as me ;-)

But I belive everybody has the capacity to be woderful dont you?

Shoes in the City: My month in high heels

So, to begin my attack on the new years, I have listed my resolutions here and now intend to set myself mini challenges for the coming months. Taking my resolutions one at a time, Ive decided to start with my wardrobe.

(p.s any ideas of challenges would be appreciated)

Looking around the internet Iv come across many cleve ladies dealing with their over flowing wardrobe or battling our current consumerist society such as: Esme and the laneway, The Vintage year, Already pretty, Blogher and My 50's year. The Ladies have all challenged themselves to not buy anything, not wear anything unthical, not to buy anythig until they have worn everythig they own, lots of inspirational ideas and all have kept up to date through their blogs!

However dealig with it in my own, Iv decided to battle my shoe addiction. I am a self confessed shoe addicts, I suffer from the affliction shared by Imelda Marcos, Carrie Bradshaw, and probably most women...

We are kow high heels are sexy. Men and women alike are drawn to them, some regard them as objects of bauty to be owned and looked at and dreamt but wheres as others see them as an everyday nesscesitie (the galmourai, the cherry blossom girl, this ladie...) My boyfriend loves me in them, I love me in them, so what is it holding me back from making the most of my buldging shoe-drobe?...

So like many women who own 30 pairs of shoes, I only really wear one pair regularly: as a meens to an end for the next 28 days I must:
-Eear high heels 5 days a week
-Wear every pair I own atleast onece
-I have the option to change pair for travleing if I am a) late b) its raining c)walking a ridiculous distace or d) the shoes are hurting me
- If it is option d I must change shoes for a diffrent/lower pair
- Kittens are allowed
-Heels must be worn at all times out of the house this includes supermarket!

Ok so Im doing this for lots of reasons. To force myslef to not waste money on things I dot wear, by wearig them. To become fully capable on a pair of heels. To feel like a tall girl. To see if I get treated diffrently. To loose the stigma I attach to wearing heels on a regular basis. To prove to my boyfriend spending money on shoes isnt a waste of money ("but look I wear them everyday!") To attempt to ruin my feet once and for all :-)

New Year New You #2

So heres the plan guys:

1) List resoltions on blog

2) Stick to resolutions

3) take photos to prove it

4) Attempt to update blog as resolutions work out

So first things first the resolutions as follows:

- wear everything I own instead of sticking to normal stuff and regulalry restocking beautiful clothes and shoes and then...not wearing them...(Iv been making this resolution every year for awhile now)

- Dont be afraid of changing hair/make up to what I want and not just stick to normal (iv started on this already...)

- Learn to do something well and do properly

- Speak spanish fluently!! (almost 2 years here and im still shy)

- Work as what I want to be and not just what is easiest (while subtley ignoring all this crisis nonsense) and become really good at it.

- Attempt to sleep (we arent counting January in this one)

- Maybe stop all those nasty vices?...

- Take more photographs

- Update blog

New Year New You

Resolution number 1: Learn how to do somthing and do it well.

(this isnt mine but I wish it was)

To celebrate entering in to 2009 I decided first to not lie to myself and pretend I couldnt change
my life.

I realised that I am at one of the few point in my life where I have time.

So much time.

So much time that I decided to learn to play the ukulele.

And it turns out im some whate of a ukulele genius! I was playing chords and changing chords and siging along all very merrily. With 24 hours I was convinced I had found my true calling in life. I was looking confidetly at chord sheets and saying "yeah I can play that!" and I was!

Untill it came time to tune it...and I discovered while I was obviosuly extreamly gifted when it came to playing the ukulele my talants ended when it came to tuning it...

oh the horror.

I shouted at the ukulele, i shouted at the boyfriend, I even shouted at the cat, cursing them all for my inability to tune the worlds simplest instrument!
and then....

I did it.

I tuned it!

I have never learnt how to play an instrument befor and finaly I felt I had really acheived something!

So maybe I am somewhat of a ukulele genius after after all...

....

The Rosa system on Measuring

(As taken from the original "Rosa's adventures in wonderland" where I wrote about funny/odd/amusing things that I had said/had happend to me and everybody became very amused and for a short while realised the full weight of my incredible intellect i.e alot)

I am not very spacialy aware. In fact I am rather unaware. When people tell me there height they have to tell me in feet if not I have no idea what then meen and refuse to learn other ways of measuring. Even then I can only pretty much estimate that 6 ft is "tall but not as tall as my brother" and 5"6 is "about my height". Meters are beyond me. Cms dont exist in my world. Mms dont even try.

Recently I at a bar for a semi-good friends going away party. A friend and I had managed to isolate ourselves from the gathering and sat in the corner laughing at jokes that only we would find funny and usualy dont even involve full sentences. This semi-friend is an Architect and he had some cool stylish architect friends hanging around and looking suave. One of them was kind enough to involve himself in my friend and I's isolated giggleing fest. As I attempted to sound knoledgeable about architecture (some what common ground and he designs houses and I have been known to live in them...). I asked him if he considered himself very spacaly aware. He said "Yes I suppose I am really".

Now after this things become a little fuzzy for me. I remember say "Ah yes Im not atall spacaly aware...in fact the only way I can ever really judge the size if things is that once read the average male penis is about 3 to 4 inches when soft and 6 when erect. So when people tell me somthing is about 6 inches I just imagine a penis..."

Yes I told the world that I mesure in penii. And yes the plural of penis is penii.

But why cant this be a legitamet form of mesuring? We measure in feet dont we? in hands? why not the penis?....Im going to write a book based on this method (i imagine it will be quite short...about 6 inches?....u just imagined a penis didnt you??)
